An experiment I did a little while back to see what scenes from Sailor Moon would look like if they were "updated" for a modern Anime marketplace. I only wanted to pick scenes that undeniably dated the series as coming from the 90s to begin with - so obviously the first scene that came to mind was the "Crystal Disk" used in episode 8. I never did end up doing any other scenes, but here's Sensitive New Age Guy Motoki giving Usagi her friend's "Crystal Drive". The other thing that has been updated is that, if you look closely, the somewhat out-of-favour "Crown Arcade" has been swapped out à la PGSM for "Crown Karaoke".
The picture on top is, obviously, not my own work. That's the original screencap. My picture is on the bottom (completely with lazily traced background). The art style I was trying to copy was that of Kyoto Animation, specifically Lucky Star. I've never watched LS (though I am a fan of K-ON!) but it seemed like if Sailor Moon were pitched to an animation studio today, its potential to be a moe-moe-kyun series made them seem like the most likely choice. Usagi's expression kind of made it difficult to show the style properly though.
I won't be doing any more of these, but it was a fun experiment.
